Hello, all! We of the staff have been talking lately, and I decided it’d be a grand time to hold a discussion with you, the players of Aeon, in regards to a few different issues. I want to find out what you think about them, as well as get your input for different ways to improve them.

This is designed to be a community discussion, in which the views of all members will be heard and considered equally. It is not a debate or argument, so there should be no real need for moderation besides what we normally have. Don’t be afraid to speak up!

The discussion will be held on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 6:00pm Central Standard Time. Just show up in IRC if you’re interested in participating. A seperate channel will be used for the discussion and will be disclosed at the time of the discussion. See you there!

This is a new one, really. This Friday (August 15, 2008 [I was originally going to do it this past Sunday]) I will be performing a cleanup of forum users. It will involve the same stipulations as game accounts, in that once an account is deleted it will be gone forever.

The posts made by deleted accounts will not be deleted. Since there is no way currently to link accounts between the forum and the server, it is possible that the forum accounts of some active server accounts may be deleted. If this happens, just speak with Laggy or me to verify your game account information and we will recreate your forum account.

The pruning list will include all accounts that have not been active in the past 90 days, just like server account cleanups are. I have created a thread in the Off-Topic forum that you should post in to make sure that your account is counted as recently active.

A slightly smaller cleanup this time around, but good for the databases all the same. As usual, if you believe your account or anything related to it was deleted in error, please contact me.

As you can see, I’m trying to keep myself on a more regular schedule for doing these. On Sunday, August 2, 2008, beginning at approximately 5pm Central Standard Time (CST), I will begin the process of cleaning the server databases of data from accounts that have been abandoned and unused.

I do these periodic cleanup cycles to keep the databases trimmed down and functioning efficiently. A lot of unneeded data in the databases can drastically impact performance by increasing search and access time in queries, both from web applications and from the server itself. To make a long story short, tossing out the old stuff to give us more room to move around and make room for fresh stuff.

As usual, the following standard rules apply:

1. All data cleaned up in this manner is unable to be retrieved. It is deleted permanently, and will not be replaced do to failure to comply with the rules set forth
2. The cleanup is scheduled to begin at approximately 5pm CST on Sunday, August 2nd. You have all the way up until the time I begin the cleanup process to update your account. The link will open a window to an application that will allow you to update your account’s last log in time without having to log into the game. Failure to update your account before the beginning of the procedure may result in loss of your account and information associated with it.
3. The possibility of a mistake being made in this procedure is very small. If you feel that a mistake has been made, it is your responsibility to contact me about the issue and I will make the appropriate investigative measures to verify the claim and decide upon a course of action.
4. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that your account is updated. If you are unable to do so by either logging into the game or using the Account Updater, then you must contact me via Forum PM or one of the alternative contact options listed on my Staff Page. Failure to do so in a timely fashion may result in the loss of your account and associated information and it will not be possible to retrieve it.

Any accounts removed in during this and any other cleanups are considered inactive or abandoned. If you were the owner of any accounts that are deleted in this way, you will be required to submit a new Account Application for review and be accepted once again to gain an account once more.

One last time, be sure you UPDATE YOUR ACCOUNT to ensure that it will remain untouched throughout the cleanup process.

Additionally, I will be storing these procedures after this cleanup and building a script that will automatically perform these cleanups in the future. As such, the Account Update Utility will be linked to permanently in the Sidebar navigation. Please use it anytime you think you won’t be around for a while, or whenever you are unable to actually log into the game to update your account.

Trade Caravan to Stop in Aldebaran

Red Rose Imports will be holding a caravan stop in the city of Aldebaran on Saturday. ((Time TBA)) After a long break from public trading, the crew returns to offer their wares. Other traders are welcome, as are curious shoppers and browsers alike.

Prontera had the pleasure to be the scenario of the one event that might have a lot of relevance to the future of Prontera and Rune-Midgard in general. In front of the headquarters of the old Chivalry–today the general HQ of the Midgard Militia–Aurora Selkirk, Marshall of the Militia, announced the arrival of Randolph Garret to the rank of General of the Militia. This event was celebrated in a short ceremony with the company of Peter Edmonton, Royal Admiral of the Navy, and a couple of civilians and soldiers of the militia.
